2017 was a great year! A lot of things were accomplished and much hope was spread! Relationships with staff and families were deepened. We learned a lot about our families, ourselves and about God’s heart for the vulnerable.
We look forward to 2018 and all that is to come. We are so thankful for all of our donors and sponsors. You make it possible for our amazing in country staff to do the work they are gifted at.
Thank you!
So….what happened in 2017?
We completed Stage 1 of the Bona clean water project!
31 small business grants were funded!
HIV/AIDS training was held for community leaders. We also spent time talking to and hearing the stories of those living with HIV and the stigma they face.
The Elsabet Initiative flourished! 20 women in Hawassa Zuria graduated from the program, another 25 women in Darra graduated, and we just began a group in Boricha with 25 more women!
Braille school books were found and purchased for these sisters
Our community sponsorship program increased from 235 to 260. We added a 14th area, Aleta Wondo town.
Tejitu had extensive surgery to repair scar tissue and did better than we ever dreamed possible!
Many medical needs were met, such as prolapsed uterus surgery, Tuberculosis medication, and other minor medical needs.
We conducted training on Mossy Foot and were able to provide shoes and treatment supplies to those who suffer from the condition.
Many children were cared for at Ajuuja Children’s Home. They were nursed back to health and loved by wonderful nannies and staff. The home received a fresh new coat of paint and new furniture!
Agegnehu and Tegegn started school! It is a very special school with wonderful teachers and they have grown so much! This has been something that has been prayed for and we are so excited to watch them flourish!
Five reunifications occurred. Children were able to go back home to their families under the sponsorship program.
Twelve local adoptions! Twelve children now have a family and a home. We are so grateful for the families that have chosen to share their love!
Medihanit’s family received a brand new home!
We had 4 students in our sponsorship program graduate from university!
All of our school age sponsored children received a backpack with school supplies!
Many of our staff and families have received training and water purification tablets that will last 6 months!
Sidamic bibles were given to families who needed a bible in their own language!
Over 200 goats/sheep were delivered to families! These animals can provide them with food, milk and income opportunities!
Cows were also given to many of our families!
We also had 13 children that received visits from their sponsors!
Hawassa Hope has had a great year and many things were accomplished thanks to the generosity of you and our trip members!
We have had wonderful first aid training by a former ER nurse, special needs care training by a pediatric specialist, and many other gifts and talents have been shared with our families and our staff.
Reusable menstrual pad kits have been made and distributed to women who need them (one set was even made by former trafficking victims in the U.S.!)
Thank you for being part of Hawassa Hope and changing lives!
