There are stories that break your heart and give you pause in your daily life. Aberash’s story is one of those.
Aberash became a widow years back. She rose up from that and took care of her family. She loved her children with a fierce love. She had joy in her face and her whole being each time we met her.
A mom who had hopes and dreams for her children just as you and I do.
Aberash has six children. They were all in school as well as working to contribute to the family until their mom fell ill. Because of fear they hid her sickness and it quickly progressed.
Her children quickly regrouped to take care of the family. All but one quit school. Two teens went into different larger cities to work. One worked taking care of the family. One began doing all the cooking. They sold everything they had to take their mom to the hospital. They pulled together and did what they felt they had to do in the moment.
Once they told our staff what was going on they visited the home and found this precious mom to be very very ill. Her greatest concern was for her children. How would they live? Who would take care of them? Who would watch out for them? Questions we would all have as mothers and fathers.
We promised her that we would take care of them and to help them succeed.
Only three days later our social worker received a call at midnight from her son that she had left this world.
So now we fulfill our promise to her and stand in the gap for her children.
Our goal is to help them become an independent family so that they don’t need us. We want them to be able to stand on their own and fulfill their dreams.
All of them have a desire to return to school next year and we want to help them to do that. Education is key to success. The eldest has experience with business and is receiving a small business grant to boost his business.
Our next goal is to build them a new home. Their hut is very old and leaks. During the rainy season the rain comes in from the top and the sides.
Can you be part of standing in the gap for Aberash’s family and help us fulfill our promise to her?
Our goal is $3,800 to provide an iron sheet house for them so a home is one worry they will not have.
